Pope Francis has sent a message to the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, who will preside over the forthcoming meeting of the G20 group representing the world’s largest economies, in which he appeals for the World leaders to “lay aside the futile pursuit of a military solution” for Syria.

“There is no humanitarian solution to the Syrian crisis; rather there needs to be a political solution that ends the humanitarian crisis,” the UNHCR and the ministers of the neighboring countries said. And they added that it’s urgent.
