It means that they will check the facts to see if there are grounds to open an investigation that would include the battle in Gaza last summer who ended with more than 2,200 Palestinian and 70 Israelis killed. The ICC probe will examine the actions of all parties.

Sweden has recognised Palestine as a State. Palestinian authorities said that the decision is “courageous” and “historic”. Israel reacted with anger, defining the move as a “miserable decision”.

The Pope and the Middle East
Pope Francis appealed repeatedly to peace in the Middle East during his visit to the Holy Land in reference to the Syrian war and the Israel-Palestinian conflict. He made an unscheduled stop at the separation wall near Bethlehem to pray there and invited the presidents of Israel and Palestine to go to the Vatican to pray together for peace with him.

Pope Francis appeal for peace
In his first Christmas Message Urbi et Orbi from the Vatican Pope Francis made an appeal for peace, calling believers and non believers to be united in this purpose. “All united, either by prayer or by desire. But all of us, for peace,” he said.
